We analyzed 152,000+ events and over 10.6 million sent messages across four business event categories. The data reveals a striking paradox — extraordinary performance, and almost no adoption.

Event email is one of the highest-performing channels in all of marketing — and yet nearly 9 in 10 organizers never send a single campaign.
Across all four categories, only about 1 in 9 events sends any email campaign whatsoever. For a channel this effective, that's a striking amount of unused potential.
Adoption varies by event type, but never by much — and never to a level you'd call "high." Corporate organizers are the most active (13%); training is the least likely (9%).
The overall open rate is 66.4% — roughly 2–3× the 20–30% that counts as healthy in conventional email marketing. Show/Performance leads at a remarkable 76.5%, but no category dips below 64%.
Bounce rate sits at 1.8% and unsubscribes at a negligible 0.5%. One category stands out: fundraisers bounce at 2.4%, likely reflecting older, manually-entered donor lists.
Campaigns go out 28 days before the event on average — but the median is just 16. That gap reveals a tail of early planners and a majority who wait. Fundraisers plan furthest ahead (32 days); shows send closest (10-day median).
85% of campaigns are sent immediately rather than scheduled. Training organizers schedule the most (19.6%); fundraisers the least (12.9%). Across the board, "send now" dominates — most communication is reactive.
Send activity peaks between 9 and 11 AM UTC, inside a broad window running roughly 7 AM to 5 PM. Late-night sends (11 PM–6 AM) are rare. The breadth points to a mix of US and international senders.
